What is a Makerspace?

Makerspaces are places dedicated to creative endeavors that are equipped with supplies and spaces for making art, teaching, learning, gathering and celebrating. The Silverthorne makerspace serves residents and visitors of all ages and abilities with opportunities to browse through the facility for free, pay a daily admission for one-time visits, register for a class, or become a member for an increased range of access. Silverthorne’s makerspace offers a wide spectrum of services including community gathering, drop-in activities, interest group meet ups, one-time classes, session-based classes, youth programs, specialized lectures, art therapy and events. Makerspaces also provide a platform for local artists to showcase and sell their work, collaborate with other artists, and generate a second income through teaching or creating works to be sold.

Art Spot Silverthorne Makerspace

The Art Spot is owned and operated by the Town of Silverthorne and was a long time vision of the Silverthorne Art Board. Creating an artist makerspace in Silverthorne was a natural progression in the town’s ongoing effort to infuse the community with artful attractions for residents and visitors. Providing a physical hub for the arts is supported by the town’s Arts and Culture Strategic Plan and furthers the commitment to the arts already made by Town Council through investments in the Silverthorne Performing Arts Center and programs such as public art installationsFirst FridaysArt Strolls, partnerships with local art groups, and support for Theatre SilCo.

The Art Spot is Silverthorne’s primary place for artistic expression and provides opportunities for the extended community to come together to create, converse, collaborate, and learn. It is an important location for community gathering and celebrations, educational programs, and permanent, temporary, and spontaneous expressions of art and culture for participants of every age; people from every place, language, and history; and both new arrivals and long-standing residents. The Art Spot gives entrepreneurs, artists, entertainers, and cultural organizations an opportunity to find their audiences and support the downtown’s transformation into a vibrant, walkable, welcoming, active place.
